The Afghanistan Cricket Board has officially confirmed the schedule for a three-match Twenty20 International series against India set for September 2026, a move that effectively renders India’s planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh virtually impossible to carry out. In a communication sent to commercial partners and broadcast rights holders, the board revealed that all three matches will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17.
Although the fixtures mark a historic landmark as Afghanistan officially hosts I
ndia in a bilateral series for the first time, holding the matches in New Delhi creates an inescapable scheduling conflict with India's tentative international calendar.
The scheduling clash stems directly from India's proposed tour to Bangladesh, which was set to feature three One Day Internationals and three T20Is beginning in late August. Under the proposed schedule, the final T20I in Bangladesh fell on September 13, creating an impossible same-day double-header with the opening fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Even if minor date adjustments were introduced, the tight turnaround leaves Team India without adequate travel time or recovery between international fixtures, making a complete restructuring or postponement of the Bangladesh tour unavoidable barring high-level governmental intervention.
The confirmation allows commercial partners and media distributors to move forward with operational planning and broadcast arrangements. Media rights owner ITW Universe is finalizing linear television agreements with major Indian networks, while digital streaming rights have been secured by FanCode.
While the Afghanistan Cricket Board has explored shifting match dates slightly to align with festive celebrations such as Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, the overall window remains locked, signaling that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has given precedence to the home-hosted bilateral series over the Bangladesh visit.
