In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, former state BJP chief and "We The Leaders" founder K. Annamalai has leveled serious corruption allegations against members of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s cabinet, claiming to possess audio evidence of ministers demanding commission cuts ranging between two to four percent from contractors handling government tenders. Speaking at an environmental awareness gathering organized in Chennai, Annamalai stated that while the Chief Minister himself maintains a firm public stance against corruption, several ministers within the newly elected administration have allegedly begun extracting kickbacks on state contracts under the pretext of recovering election expenditures.
According to Annamalai, the purported audio recordings capture ministers negotiating percentages with contractors by claiming that they spent significant funds during the elections and must now be compensated through project commissions. While acknowledging that kickbacks were largely restrained during the initial allocation of major government tenders, he warned that corrupt practices are steadily resurfacing at various ministerial levels. Addressing Chief Minister Vijay directly, Annamalai urged him to tighten his administrative grip over ministers and senior bureaucrats by holding regular weekly review meetings, cautioning that any leniency in governance could allow systemic corruption to entrench itself within the state machinery.
