The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced widespread, statewide demonstrations across constituency and mandal headquarters in Telangana, vehemently opposing what it terms a deliberate attempt by the ruling Congress government to scrap the flagship Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak welfare schemes. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao called upon party lawmakers, representatives, and grassroots workers to stage aggressive public demonstrations to expose the state administration's alleged betrayal of underprivileged families. Addressing party leaders during an extensive teleconference, Rama Rao asserted that these welfare initiatives are deeply intertwined with the financial security and dignity of daughters from poor households, warning that any administrative move to withdraw them would face intense public resistance.
Accusing the Revanth Reddy-led administration of using a High Court verdict as an excuse to wind down the social welfare programmes, Rama Rao questioned why the state legal team failed to file a counter-affidavit despite receiving multiple extensions from the judiciary. He criticized the government for demonstrating gross negligence toward welfare schemes for the poor while readily deploying substantial public funds on private lawyers for litigation involving top ministers. Pointing out the history of the initiative, the BRS leader recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao introduced the scheme in October 2014 with an initial assistance of fifty-one thousand rupees, which was subsequently raised to over one lakh rupees, benefiting roughly thirteen lakh families with a cumulative disbursement of around thirteen thousand crore rupees throughout the BRS tenure.
Rama Rao further targeted the Congress leadership over its unfulfilled assembly election commitment to provide one tola of gold alongside the existing cash assistance for marriage expenses, arguing that instead of expanding the benefit, the government is deliberately stalling pending payouts. He noted that thousands of eligible applicants have been left stranded, with families making repeated rounds to government offices long after their daughters' weddings have concluded without receiving their sanctioned cheques. Demanding the immediate clearance of all pending applications and prompt disbursement of funds, the BRS directed its cadres to take the agitation into every ward and village, escalating pressure on Congress leaders over their electoral guarantees and safeguarding the continuation of both Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak across Telangana.
