Food safety officials in Karnataka have cracked down on both private tech platforms and state-backed eating outlets, sealing a Zepto fulfillment center in Hoskote and an Indira Canteen kitchen in Gottigere during unannounced raids in Bengaluru. The inspection drive signals a clear shift by regulators, moving past typical hotels and restaurants to hold quick-commerce hubs and government-funded kitchens to the same hygiene standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.
Inspectors visiting the Hoskote Zepto location near the Nippon Express complex found strewn trash, rotting organic waste, filthy storage floors, along with mislabeled and misbranded products. Treating the conditions as an immediate health hazard, officials halted operations on the spot and launched formal legal proceedings.
At the same time, teams checked Indira Canteen sites across Gottigere, Singasandra, and Lingarajapuram. Dirty conditions and labeling violations led to the closure of the Gottigere facility, while official notices were handed out across the remaining locations. Regulators also took samples of cooking oil, lentils, turmeric, jaggery, and cooked meals for lab testing, warning that unannounced checks will stay in full effect across all public and private food distribution channels in the city.
