Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in New Delhi on Saturday to mark India’s 80th Independence Day, delivering a focused 75-minute speech that laid out a comprehensive strategic roadmap for economic self-reliance, technological sovereignty, and youth empowerment. Marking a historic ceremonial shift to honor 150 years of the national song, the celebration commenced with a rendition of Vande Mataram echoing across the monument ahead of the national anthem and flag-hoisting ceremony.
Addressing a diverse gathering of over 27,000 attendees, including international Olympiad winners, entrepreneurs, grassroot workers, and youth innovators, the Prime Minister highlighted the nation’s accelerated transformation over the past decade and reaffirmed the mission to establish a fully developed Viksit Bharat by 2047.
At the heart of the address was a multi-sectoral reform framework termed the Saptadhara initiative, designed to bolster domestic manufacturing, secure critical mineral supply chains, modernize legal frameworks, and fast-track high-tech infrastructure. A significant portion of the speech targeted Gen-Z and competitive exam aspirants, with the Prime Minister announcing a nationwide initiative to provide free online coaching for major competitive examinations to ease the immense financial strain borne by middle-class and rural families.
Accompanied by plans to equip one crore youth with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence skills over the next year, the government emphasized that technological democratisation and access to quality education remain foundational to domestic economic growth.
Expanding on industrial capability and national self-reliance, the Prime Minister announced that five to eight new semiconductor fabrication facilities will become operational across India over the coming seven to eight years, significantly reducing foreign supply dependencies.
Highlighting key milestones in energy independence and strategic defense, the address noted that mastering advanced nuclear technologies and expanding civil defense capabilities will shield essential infrastructure—from banking corridors to regional energy grids—from evolving global security risks and cyber threats. With an earnest appeal to the younger demographic, the Prime Minister also urged citizens to take an active leadership role in the ongoing digital Census process, dedicating their time to ensure an accurate, transparent, and future-ready national dataset.
