Delivering his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out an expansive vision to elevate the country’s global soft power, urging creators, entrepreneurs, and institutions to turn India’s cultural depth and creative talent into international benchmarks.
The Prime Minister underlined that while India is rapidly building out its hard infrastructure and expanding its industrial footprint, the nation's civilisational heritage and contemporary creative industries hold immense untapped potential to shape global culture.
He highlighted an array of traditional and modern sectors—ranging from yoga, Ayurveda, and indigenous handicrafts to films, visual effects (VFX), animation, gaming, music, and digital entertainment—as critical drivers capable of projecting India's voice, talent, and creative identity across international borders. Modi linked this cultural push directly to his broader development roadmap, the Sapta Dhara framework, designed to steer the country toward becoming a fully developed nation by 2047. While ancient wellness traditions like yoga and Ayurveda have already found widespread international acceptance.
The Prime Minister noted that the real opportunity ahead lies in bridging timeless Indian narratives with cutting-edge digital technology. He pointed out that India’s burgeoning Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector is already powering some of the world's biggest entertainment productions behind the scenes.
The next logical leap, he argued, is for Indian creators to develop original, homegrown intellectual properties, games, and films that captivate global audiences from start to finish. The Prime Minister placed special emphasis on the creative potential of India’s youth, noting that the creator economy, digital media design, and interactive entertainment are no longer niche hobbies but multi-billion-dollar engines of employment and enterprise.
He urged the domestic film and gaming industries to aim for world-class production standards, adopt next-generation technologies like artificial intelligence and immersive digital graphics, and tell stories rooted in the country's diverse folklore and history. Modi concluded that when Indian storytelling meets technological excellence and scale, the country not only creates high-value jobs for its younger generation but also cements its position as an indispensable cultural powerhouse on the world stage.
