State food safety inspectors in Maharashtra took decisive action this week by suspending the operating licences of four Domino’s Pizza locations and a Pizza Hut outlet during a major enforcement drive. Carried out under the "Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra" campaign, officials conducted unannounced visits across 104 quick-service restaurant outlets to evaluate their adherence to mandatory sanitation, hygiene, and kitchen infrastructure standards.
In Mumbai, regulatory teams halted kitchen operations at three Jubilant FoodWorks-managed Domino’s branches situated in Borivali West, Vile Parle West, and the R-City Mall in Ghatkopar West. Inspections documented several operational shortfalls the Borivali branch posted a compliance score of just 54 percent after officers found greasy prep counters, weak pest barriers, and poorly separated raw and processed foods.
The Ghatkopar outlet was cited for missing deep-cleaning logs and absent medical fitness records for staff, while the Vile Parle location faced action over unmonitored refrigeration units and potential pest access points. Outside Mumbai, a fourth Domino’s location in Malkapur, near Karad, recorded a low 47 percent rating, triggering an immediate suspension.
The regulatory sweep also impacted a Pizza Hut location in Karad operated by Sapphire Foods India. Inspectors suspended its licence after finding that vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas were being baked in shared ovens and pans without segregation, along with unlabelled sauce tubs missing mandatory expiration dates.
Across the 104 fast-food kitchens audited during the single-day operation, state regulators issued formal improvement notices to 95 outlets, forced two unlicensed operations to close down immediately, and suspended five licences on the spot. Authorities emphasized that surprise audits will continue across major commercial food brands to maintain consumer safety standards.
