Passengers aboard SpiceJet flight SG-105 from Delhi to Pune faced a nightmare scenario when the aircraft's air conditioning system broke down just before takeoff. Scheduled to leave Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport around 9:45 PM, the flight was delayed until 10:30 PM. Once everyone boarded, travelers quickly realized the cabin had no airflow while the plane taxied toward the runway.
Conditions inside the cabin spiraled as temperatures climbed. Instead of cool air, the vents started pushing out hot air into the enclosed space. The suffocating heat took a heavy toll on everyone on board, particularly children, elderly passengers, and a pregnant woman who passed out. Outraged passengers staged a protest and demanded the pilots abort the takeoff immediately. Listening to the uproar, the crew turned the plane back to the bay and cancelled the flight.
The nightmare did not end on the tarmac; travelers waited for hours inside the terminal with little to no immediate medical aid or assistance provided. A replacement plane eventually took off around 5:00 AM the following morning, bringing passengers to Pune nearly twelve hours after their original scheduled travel time. SpiceJet later released a statement acknowledging the technical failure, apologizing for the ordeal, and confirming that a backup aircraft was brought in to complete the route.
