More than just an administrative badge, the certification marks a decisive shift in how heavy urban transit infrastructure is maintained—moving away from traditional, reactive fixes toward predictive, lifecycle-driven upkeep.
The ISO 55001:2024 standard is the newest global benchmark for physical asset management. It sets rigorous guidelines for how organizations monitor, maintain, and upgrade equipment from day one through to eventual retirement. For mass transit networks moving millions of passengers daily, having this structured approach helps operators balance equipment reliability, safety risks, and long-term operating costs without letting budgets spiral out of control.
Earning the certification in record time meant overhauling internal governance across DMRC’s maintenance wings. The team updated its Strategic Asset Management Plan, mapped daily workshop routines directly to core safety targets, and rolled out risk-assessment models alongside intensive field training for engineers and technicians. Compliance is tracked through clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), regular on-ground audits, and leadership reviews to ensure equipment stays dependable and safe under heavy operational load.
Managing Mumbai’s Aqua Line comes with unique engineering demands. The entire 33.5-km line runs underground through dense coastal soil, meaning even minor electrical or mechanical glitches can cause major delays.
