Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat issued a stern cautionary message regarding disruptive public agitations, warning that certain domestic protests are being strategically co-opted by hostile external powers intent on arresting India’s global rise. Addressing swayamsevaks and dignitaries on the occasion of the Sangh’s 101st foundation day and annual Vijayadashami Utsav at Reshimbagh in Nagpur, the RSS chief warned that elements advocating for regime change fundamentally misread historical realities. He asserted that sudden political disruptions do not resolve root structural challenges, arguing instead that true societal progress emerges through internal cohesion, civic responsibility, and institutional stability rather than artificially orchestrated civil unrest.
Delivering his annual address following the traditional ceremonial shastra puja (worship of weapons), Bhagwat reflected on the nature of democratic demonstrations against the backdrop of recent youth unrest and street demonstrations across the country. He acknowledged that grievances, disagreements, and public assemblies are inevitable and legitimate components of a free democracy. However, he emphasized that the core objective of any civic movement must always be problem-solving and collective reform rather than deepening fault lines between diverse communities. When agitations cease to pursue public welfare and instead transform into partisan instruments aimed at fanning hatred against particular institutions, ideologies, or individuals, they open the door for subversive forces to exploit domestic discord.
Bhagwat pointedly highlighted the geopolitical dimensions behind street-level volatility, alleging the involvement of international interests seeking to keep emerging economies in a weakened, subordinate position. Global powers that wish to preserve their own geopolitical dominance and prevent any challenge to their traditional supremacy often play an active role in stoking internal polarization, he observed. According to the RSS chief, while developed nations may superficially welcome India’s economic growth, they remain deeply uneasy about the prospect of a self-reliant and formidable India challenging existing hierarchies. Consequently, these interests seek to capitalize on internal social grievances, promote narratives of systemic victimhood, and alienate citizens from their national identity to manufacture instability from within.
Turning his focus to the rhetoric surrounding regime change, Bhagwat rejected the notion that replacing political administrations through disruptive agitation yields meaningful progress or lasting solutions. He noted that historical precedents consistently demonstrate that mere alterations in governing regimes have never solved foundational societal challenges. Pushing back against efforts designed to dismantle institutional authority, the RSS leader declared that attempts to weaken India through planned disruption will ultimately fail, because the nation has steadily advanced under decisive policies and resilient cultural foundations that cannot be easily fractured by hostile interference.
The RSS chief urged political leaders, protest organizers, and administrative officials alike to maintain a sense of collective ownership and civic discipline, emphasizing that public movements must be guided by a genuine sense of belonging to the country. He insisted that regardless of how intense public anger or political passion may become, all democratic participants must operate strictly within the boundaries defined by the Indian Constitution, uphold the conventions of civilized public dialogue, and adhere to standards of dignified civic conduct. Allowing street agitation to degenerate into hostility or seeking short-term political mileage at the expense of national harmony only harms the social fabric, he warned.
Reiterating that lasting solutions arise not through manufactured disruption but from the organic elevation of society as a whole, Bhagwat called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to remain discerning and vigilant against narratives intended to sow cynicism toward domestic systems. He underlined that genuine national empowerment relies on constructive participation, social brotherhood, and unwavering adherence to constitutional processes, which collectively serve as the ultimate defense against both internal subversion and foreign geopolitical conspiracies designed to destabilize the nation.
