A heavy barrage of Russian ballistic missiles and attack drones struck cities across Ukraine overnight, killing at least five people and leaving dozens wounded in one of the widest aerial attacks in recent weeks. Missiles and falling debris slammed into residential streets, industrial sites, and commercial districts across Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, and Kremenchuk, keeping emergency crews busy through the morning digging survivors out of smoldering concrete.
Central Ukraine’s industrial hub of Kryvyi Rih saw the heaviest toll. A ballistic missile strike there killed a local steel plant worker and a 44-year-old resident whose body was pulled from the ruins of a collapsed building. Another 14 people were rushed to nearby hospitals with varying injuries. Further southeast in Zaporizhzhia, a direct hit leveled a home, killing two people in their sixties. Down the river in Kremenchuk, heavy strikes battered local infrastructure facilities. In Kyiv, the roar of air defense systems echoed over the capital for hours.
While interceptors intercepted several incoming targets, flaming debris crashed into busy commercial pockets. One blast sparked a fast-moving fire that tore through stalls at the open-air book market near the Pochaina metro station. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that flying shrapnel and shattered glass injured at least six people, among them a child. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the overnight barrage, stressing that ballistic strikes continue to hammer civilian hubs and supply networks hundreds of miles behind the front lines.
While Moscow maintained that its attacks focused solely on energy infrastructure and military-linked production sites, the wreckage scattered across city centers showed a far more widespread toll as both sides push deeper with long-range strikes.
